Lancaster staff, students, and alumni celebrate the 20th anniversary of the BBA Management degree.

Lancaster staff, students, and alumni celebrate the 20th anniversary of the BBA Management degree.

The 20th Birthday of the BBA Management was celebrated by over 200 students, alumni and staff who attended events in Lancaster, London, Madrid and Hong Kong on 15th November.

Guests at the Lancaster party enjoyed BBQ food and BBA-shaped birthday cake, giant games and a ‘20 years - 20 questions’ quiz, as well as music and socialising. Eric the rodeo sheep proved to be a star attraction and the party atmosphere was enjoyed by all.

Event host and BBA Programme Director  said, "It was great to see so many BBA students and graduates enjoying the party, and especially to welcome our alumni back to Lancaster. The BBA as a generalist management degree which includes a year-long industrial placement and continues to be one of the most challenging but rewarding of the wide array of management degrees on offer at Lancaster."

The parties in London and Madrid were connected to the Lancaster event via Skype. Despite signal difficulties which restricted the length of the calls, it was good to be able to see friends and colleagues getting together to celebrate the BBA birthday in other locations.

BBA Management graduate Ivy Ho (1998) deserves special recognition for organising and hosting an enjoyable party in Hong Kong, and for sharing this so well via Twitter and Facebook.

Understanding that not all members of the BBA and Euro BBA community would be able to attend an event on 15th November, the use of online social media played an important role in the birthday celebrations. The Lancaster BBA and Euro BBA Facebook page served as a platform for engagement by many more students and alumni, especially in photo competitions involving our specially branded BBA boomerangs!

As a lasting symbol of the value of the BBA and Euro BBA degree programmes at Lancaster, alumni and students have been invited to share their comments about what the BBA means to them. These quotes will be put together into a piece of quote art, designed by BBA graduate (2001) Katharine Armstrong-Short, to go on display early next year in the LUMS building.

The first BBA Management cohort, of eight students, graduated in 1993. Since the programme's origins, it has grown in size and reputation; now proud to recognise over 850 graduates. The BBA European Management began in 1990 and now has an international alumni base of over 650 graduates.
